The death of Liberty and Truth
The Delhi police have arrested a man in connection with the twin blasts in the Liberty and Satyam cinema halls in the capital on May 22.The accused, Balvinder Singh, belongs to the Babbar Khalsa militant outfit. He was arrested from Jalandhar on Monday, police sources said today. ---
This is the first piece of news about the blast since the day of the blast. I guess people were used to Liberty and Truth being blown up before. 'tis sad, really sad.
Bitch, I am.
Bushwackhed!!
And in other news, Associated Press has captioned a Paris Hilton pic as US Actress Paris Hilton...
Yep. Actress.
Hell or the streets of Chennai?
I could say 'God is Cruel', but that is like saying 'A Fish market Stinks'(The capital S was intentional) or 'Shrek is Funny' (Again, intentional). So, I just say 'Ugh' and go back to pointless typing, staring at the screen and wishing I was somewhere else but at the same time very happy that I'm in an air conditioned place. This could be worse in so many ways.
I would thank you for your patience, but you probably have nothing better to do. So bye and see you again, sometime.

size matters??
OUR DOORS ARE OPEN WIDE FROM TODAY!!!
I guess they are referring to all those people who complained that they couldn't fit their extra-large girth through the narrow doors of Canara Bank.
Or, this could be a companion piece to S.Kumar's new ad -
SIZE DOSEN'T MATTER!! NOW AVAILABLE IN SIZES 40/42/44/46!!!
Fat people are the target audience for both banks and clothes retailers.... Welcome to the Wide Revolution!
But I still have trouble getting jeans that fit. Atleast now I won't have trouble getting into banks. That's something.

This Morning
There was a wall, totally covered by posters. One poster stood out. It was black and torn. On the paper that remained (not eaten by cows, donkeys and other paper eating creatures), I could see a bit of the actor Vijay's face and the movie title, Kathal. Below that word, there was another paper stuck on top of the poster. This time, yellow. This was also torn. It was one of those advertisements by quacks claiming to be able to cure everything.
This is what I saw:
KATHAL
DO YOU HAVE PILES?
It was a nice walk.

Blue Nowhere
The Sting
I have just one observation to make. Robert Redford has weird teeth. Either that, or a weird smile. Whenever he smiled in the movie, it looked like he was in pain. His teeth were evenly yellow and looked like they had been made out of one piece of china clay. Gross. Other than that, good movie; but very predictable.

more weirdness
10. On my way back home, I saw this on the rear window of an autorickshaw
I AM AN INDIAN NOODLES
what was he thinking?
11. ANGERING is a word. I heard it for the first time today. Angelina Jolie said it during HardTalk Extra.
weird today
1. I heard kokku para para 4 times in different places during my morning walk/jog (hereafter to be known as jolk). It ranks up there with mmbop as one of the most irritating songs ever.
2. I saw a man milking a donkey...
3. I read a book early in the morning (2am) - it was sherlock holmes meets kim (rudyard kipling) and was not bad. It's the last 3 words of the previous sentence that makes it weird.
4. I saw a girl wearing a brown and red and green and blue checked skirt with a yellow and pink tshirt. My eyes hurt.
5. My father told me he used to listen to Janis Joplin.
6. Nirvana's In Bloom video.
7. There was no Disprin/Asprin in the house. If you know my family, that's weird.
8. There was a truck on my way home from my jolk. There were feet hanging out of one side. I counted 20 feet. There were 10 men sleeping in a truck at 7am near my house.
9. My hand hit the exhaust fan (uncovered!!!!) in the bathroom and there isn't even a scratch on my finger. I'm Supergirl?
and it's just 9.30. I wonder what the rest of the day is going to be like.

Laugh. Now.
George Galloway's testimony
In the loo
1st loud lady: [jabber jabber in unknown language] giggle giggle
2nd loud lady: What!! I didn't know he was like that!! Then what happened? (this was in tamil)
1st: [jabber jabber some more] more giggles
2nd: giggle giggle Sounds like you two had fun this weekend! [I did not want to know!! ugh.. meanwhile, I was in a lot of pain, in case you wanted to know.]
1st: I also did not know that it could be like that. [what? what are you talking about?] But it was great ... I really had a good time. [huh]
2nd: Introduce me also to him. I really want to meet this guy. [ok lady, now what are you talking about? inquisitive minds want to know. btw, Still in pain]
and this went on for a while in unknown language after that.... till they suddenly remembered where they were standing and decided to go back, i'm assuming they went back to work or maybe they went back to this remarkable man who did... what exactly?
I did not know constipation could be so entertaining.

The Sith hit the fan - But there were no surprises.
The movie was good. But it could have been a lot better. A lot, lot better
It had some serious problems and the "light to dark" - Anakin to Darth Vader just did not work. The Anakin-Padme scenes seemed very forced and awkward and ranged from "Oh god please kill me now" embarrassment to "I don't want to see any more of this, shut this off" pain. It was a sad let down from the funny-cute Han Solo-Princess Leia scenes. Anakin was a whiny bitch throughout the movie and Padme was a spiness loser. I DON'T want to talk about them.
The good stuff - The action sequences were brilliant, there weren't too many creatures, and Yoda rocked.
The Obi Wan and Anakin scenes initially were damn good. All the fight scenes were superb. Like all good fantasy, the animation rocked! And Count Dooku and Anankin was great too. And General Grievous and Obi Wan. Ok All the action sequences were great.
The first 30 minutes of the movie was simply amazing (I'm running out of adjectives). It was the best part of teh movie. Awesome. And the Godfather style murders of the Jedi was also beautifully done. They could have shown a little more emotion, a little more angst during the Temple killings but other than that, that sequence was damn good. I'm not going to say more about that. Go watch the movie.
I wish there had been more C3PO and R2D2. And Natalie Portman had just no role in this movie. She's just sitting around waiting. Padme was a goddamn Senator, they should have given her more to do. And that shit about her dying as soon as she gave birth, wtf??? Leia tells Luke about their mother in Star Wars!! How did she do that if Organo took her the day she was born!! Did Lucas even see those first three movies????
If Lucas had spent more time with the dialogues and story development, at least a decent fraction of what he had with the animation and action sequences, the movie would have been a lot better.
Yoda and Obi Wan were the real heros of this movie and to be honest, Ewan McGregoor makes a better Obi Wan than Alec Guiness (Blasphemy, I know; but still...). I bet Alec Guiness never looked this good in a short tunic ;) Yoda's fight sequence with Darth Sidious was superb. Yoda's everything in this movie was great. That scene when Anakin kills Mace Windu was good but the follow up conversation, the most important one, with Palpitine was totally botched.
I have one more gripe for the movie - everything was CGI, even the dirt. Nothing seemed real, it was as if they had not built any sets at all. Sad.
Yoda, Obi Wan, Darth Sidious, Senator Organa, General Grievous and Count Dooku rocked this movie.
The Score, how could I forget that! It made up for all the botched up dialogues. I'll shut up now. Go watch the movie.

bad muzak - no. terrible.
have you seen the new video by blaze and sagar? i don't know the name of the song. but it really was terrible. and funny. though there wasn't any one thing that made it bad. the music was ok.. the usual indian background sitary music with western strings and drums. not my type. that wasn't what made made it bad. it wasn't the video either - black and white, 2 indian guys in gangsta get up, a young girl filling marbles in a glass jars, and other weird stuff that goes into making an indian english rap (sort of) song. artsy. it wasn't the song itself either - even though it went "... i believe in the prophet mohammed, i believe in the lord jesus, i believe in om namah shivaya.." and in the next verse rhymes moment with mohammed, saved us with lord jesus and because they couldn't get anything to rhyme with om namah shivaya, they say "i believe in om namah shivaya/ say it again/ om namah shivaya". nope, none of these.
they had subtitles in their video! that's what totally pissed me off. subtitles? for a song? and they had subtitles only for the english part of the "song". there were some parts in hindi, but those didn't have subtitles. and to make it worse, the subtitles were in a weird, thin, gray, staggered font. ugh. totally killed it.
see it. laugh. have a good day.
More movies
When I first saw the movie, I didn't like it very much. Now, in retrospect, I like it. Wouldn't see it again. But I'd definitely recommend it. Go see it.
It is a brilliant biopic. Leo's greatest movie since The Basketball Diaries (Please tell me you have seen that. It was great!), What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Catch Me if You Can (they were great too). Everybody else in the movie were just eye candy - Cate Blanchett, Kate Bekinsale, Alan Alda, Jude Law (yummy!), all of them were good but was a Leo movie. (Is it Everybody was or Everybody were??) The begininng was a little distorted and I wasn't very impressed but as the movie went on, you could feel his paranoia and insecurities. Superb Movie. I want to see Howard Hughes' Hells' Angel's now. (lots of apostrophes there :) )
The same week that I saw the Aviator, I also saw A Series of Unfortunate Incidents. UGH. I couldnt sit through it. But lots of others liked it. Wierd people.
I read that Terri Schiavo's parents met the Pope. Is it just me, or does this Pope seem a little "fundamentalist" in the same way the Ayatollahs and VHP are?? It's probably just me. I just don't get religious leaders at all.
RIP.
wtf?
Those over zealous Christians have done it again! Today I unveil to you, their latest monstrosity, The latex clad Batman ripoff, Bible Man! That's right, you heard me, BIBLE MAN. Just when I thought Christian zealots couldn't get any dumber, They just did. What exactly does Bible Man do? He uses his amazing knowledge of the BIBLE, to thwart a handful of super villain rejects, and people whose religious beliefs don't align perfectly with his own. Villains like the evil Dr Fear, The Fibbler, and the sinister Prince of Pride... Oh I'm pissing my pants in fear! Save me Bible Man, you're my only hope.
Bible Man stands for everything good in life! Things like, teaching hypocrisy and condemning those ever so blasphemous Muslims. I'm glad Bible Man is working to keep the world free of Non-Christians. After all, JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY!!! God only knows we can't have those sinful Hindus and Buddhists corrupting our children, and putting sinful ideas like Karma and Nirvana in their heads! I don't know about you, but I cant bear the thought of my children worshipping any other god besides Jesus, or buying merchandise from any other religion. I only spend my hard earned cash on things like the Bibleman Coffee Mug, or the Bibleman Pez Dispenser. Do I want an Abraham T-Shirt? No spank you! I wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything Jewish, not as long as Jesus is in style.
Wow, Who would have thought that religion could be so profitable! And here's the fucking proof! I haven't seen this much fucking merchandising since Pokemon! They have all kinds of shitty merchandise from the BibleMan Table Napkin to a Fucking Action Figure. Isn't this kind of shit sacrilegious? It just goes to show that those Christian Zealots sure know how to take advantage of capitalism!
sometimes
i am scared. i dont know of what or why.
i want to go away. i dont know where.
i dont like most people. i wonder if most people dont like me
that scares me.
i feel cold. it has nothing to do with the air conditioning.
i seem to be reading more and more fiction about horrible violence.
they say that people who read a lot of fiction lose track of reality.
i have lost something, i dont know if it is reality.
i cant talk with some one for longer than 15 mins without wishing they would would leave me alone.
i dont remember the last time i started a conversation.
is it possible to be anti-others without being anti-myself?
i want to go back to the hostel and lock myself into my room, safe in the knowledge that nobody will bother me.
then i get upset that nobody bothers me.
i grin when people say "thats the way she is" but i really get angry at them for saying it.
i dont like being predictable.
i am tired of being funny.
i dont think i am a nice person.
there are a lot of "i"s in this post.
its 12.03 pm. i want to sleep.
if i see another weightloss program on tv i will go crazy.

House of Sand & Fog
I hated it.
I loved it.
Watch it.
It has Ben Kingsley as Colonel Behrani (not Behroony, Barmani or Burmini. Behrani), Shohreh Aghdashloo (i love this name, ijust rolls in your mouth. try it) as Mrs. Behrani, a really cute teenager as their son and Jennifer Connelly as Kathy Lazaro. Jennifer Connoley makes you want to slap her to her senses and her married boyfriend in this movie is creepy, in a dumb hick kind of way. The Colonel amd his family are perfect. It was a little weird in the begining to see him working on a road crew and then living in a $175000 hotel apartment. But it made sense. and when he says, "I am tired of working like an arab, getting paid like an arab! We will move to this house and you will satrt packing now" to his wife you can feel the anger and the frustration coming off him. And later in the movie, he tells his son not to be like him... that'll get you too.
The creepy deputy sheriff was damn good too. Initially he just seemed like he had the hots for Jennifer Connoley, but later, wow... he did the angry, pissed off, clueless, bully very well.
Go see it. You might hate it or love it, but you definitely won't leave half way.

kingdom of crap
the movie was a total loss.
It had Jeremy Irons, Alan Rickman and Liam Neeson, all of whom were barely there in the movie. The guy who played Salahuddin was also awesome. Instead of showing people who could act, they had Orlando Bloom in every frame; him and that woman who looked like Elvira from The Addams Family! ugh.
They had lifted an entire battle scene from The Lord of the Rings (did i put the right letters in caps??) and that was the only part of the movie which was watchable (is that a word?). Sad Sad Ridley Scott. If Gladiator wasn't bad enough, he had to come up with this piece of celluloid crap. He seems to have gone out of his way to make sure that he did not ruffle any religious feathers. There was one good guy (Salahuddin and Baylian(sp?)) and one bad guy (Guy whatever who goes "Give me a war" and the young arab who goes "You promised us Jerusalem!") in both the Christian and Muslim sides. What was the point of this movie? It should have been called "How to turn a blacksmith into a General and back again". Not that at any point during the movie they showed how this "strong and silent" troubled blacksmith who initially seems dyslexic turns into this brilliant but misunderstood general. Why does Tiberius respect this guy so much? Elvira's (i forgot her name in the movie, Sybilla or something) husband Guy's reaction to the guy seems to make a lot more sense. Did Bloom's character know how to be a super general just because he was the bastard child of the Duke? It was in the blood? Yeah right... dole out some more of that crap.
I can't wait to see how George Lucas mucks up Revenge of the Sith. The only consolation is that it couldn't possibly be worse that Return of the Clones. We'll see this Friday.

im this kind of killer apparently
You kill for
revenge.
That is because you have lost something or
someone you held very dear. Now you can't seem
to get over the loss that marked your soul, and
the only solution is to go after the one person
who brought all this pain to you. Chances are
you are angry inside and you bottle everything
up and don't talk to anyone about it. People
may want to help, but you think that they can
never understand your pain and only get
frustrated because of this. But it is important
to see all that you have left and be thankful
of that even if you have lost something great.
It may not be true that Times heals all wounds,
but with time and talking about your feelings,
maybe the hurt will ease.

bush blair bhai-bhai and other things american and indian
i met someone who said that since what america does affects the rest of the world so much, all the countries should have a few votes during the presidential election or atleast a veto. i found that hilarious. there goes your sovereignity(sp?). but there is a fragment of logic in that.
check out http://www.americans-world.org/index.cfm . its scary how much public opinion in america is against what their own government is doing.
another issue that has been raked up by many in india is the spread of american culture - my grandmother claims to dislike it. but this is what that site had to say about americans opinion of their culture spreading -
"Polls show that Americans generally have a positive view of US culture. In the October 1999 PIPA poll, a strong majority (60%) said they had a favorable view of "American popular culture, such as music, television, and films" (21% had a very favorable opinion). Thirty-nine percent found it to be unfavorable (14% very unfavorable)."
this was '99 so i guess things would have changed a lot since then.
also at the same time - "a near-unanimous majority (91%) agreed, "the global economy makes it more important than ever for all of us to understand people who are different than ourselves." This is hardly an endorsement of US cultural imperialism."
confused, i am.
there are no new polls that say anything about this topic. there is also the question of how representative a poll is really? case in point, indian exit polls. that was a real hahahahahahahahaha. it was actually fun to watch the all-knowing NDTV chaps totally shocked. rajdeep s. looked so lost. bharkha d. whaaaa.... srinivasan j. wtf?....
HAHAHAHAHA
so much fun.

dune chronicles
I absolutely loved Dune, Messiah, Children of DUne, GOd Emperor, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse.... i wanted to be in the Bene Gesserit when I read the first book- who wouldn't after reading this at age 17 -
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I shall remain.
- Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear.
I thought it was the coolest thing ever. The language was weird and everything was rhetoric; the birth, life and death of a religion; the hours I spent staring the screen, wiping tears off my cheeks from reading 6 hours continuously; the way Muad'Dib goes from weird kid, to Whoa! prophet, to part worm to full worm; the Tleilaxu making the same man again and again; "Politics as a Repeat Phenomenon"; The Stolen Journals ...
( ... those three dots are together known as an ellipsis)
If I read it again I would hate it. All that religion, all those long speeches and cruel rulers, all those "water" conversations. I would hate it because I don't want to read in fiction what I can see everyday on the news. Life does follow fiction, but it is not as much fun to live it as it is to read about it happening in a non-existant galaxy far, far away.

i could scream at these bloody shiv sena types
In the attempt to provide a ‘free’ atmosphere at home, parents proudly allow girls to wear skimpy clothes and give boys uncontrolled freedom.
To see girls dangle a cigarette openly is worrisome. If a man is provoked by such clothes, who can one blame?
When these girls wear skimpy clothes and leave home, why don’t the elders of the house object? Why don’t they correct the misunderstanding that being modern does not mean wearing skimpy clothes? Why is the young generation modern in attire but not modern in thought? One after another, these questions are at the forefront.
Those who argue that there is no connection between women and girls wearing skimpy clothes and rape should keep the social structure in mind. Besides rape, it is the evil eye of men provoked by the culture of skimpy clothes that is harmful. Why encourage these perverse tendencies?
In the name of remixes, the wave of ‘sex appeal’ is ruining entire generations. If an adolescent boy develops perverse tendencies because of such hot movies and their obscene posters, and an innocent girl falls victim to that, then who is to blame.
The boy’s perversity or society.
This was from Shiv Sena’s Marathi mouthpiece Saamna’s front-page article on Monday. How can they give excuses like this and make it the girl's fault? how is it ok to rape a girl and then claim that she was wearing "skimpy" clothes, and she "provoked" it? why do these people live? i want to kill them slowly, dangle them by their fingernails over a lava vat, and dip then in it, hear them scream and then tell them, "your fault, you know. you provoked me with your skimpy argument and meaningless drivel. if you had a brain, even a little decency you might have lived to see tomorrow. but no; you had to be a hypocrite, and for that you die. slowly." every one of them. this drivel was spouted not just by the shiv sena but also by a muslim cleric in sydney only a few days after Saamna was published.
The former Australian boxing champion said rape victims had no one to blame but themselves.
‘‘Strapless, backless, sleeveless, nothing but satanic skirts, slit skirts, translucent blouses, miniskirts, tight jeans—all this to tease man and appeal to his carnal nature,’’ the 34-year-old told a 1,000-strong crowd at a Global Youth Islamic Centre in south west Sydney.
awful people. but there is still hope.
One guy who called in to give his views: “I should remind the Sheik that under Islamic law, if someone commits adultery or rape, he’s punished by death. So he should keep that in mind,” said one caller who identified himself as Mohammad.
no points for guessing who i agree with. kill them all.
voltaire- i disagree with what you say, but i will fight till death to protect your right to say it.not all the time. Swami Vivekananda disgustedly exclaimed that ‘tolerance’ was an ugly word. It stank of an attitude of “I know you are wrong but I tolerate your error!” with that i agree. sometimes. how do you tolerate people who say rape victims had no one to blame but themselves. i can't. then where is the line between freedom to speech and inciting violence. do we tell them, just dont teach it to small kids in tribal villages who dont have other schools to go to? this is what shiv sena does.it was on tv yesterday in some other context. they run schools in north & east india and all those kids are fed so much propaganda. how is that any better than what they claim missionary-run christian schools do? there must be a way to regulate what kids learn. they then grow to be big bullies like their teachers, spouting religious nonsense and instigating regionalism and blaming everybody but the the guy who did it.
i like this place less every day. but the rest of the world seems no better.
